New Methodist Clinic Offers Diabetic and Endocrine Services, Welcomes 4 Specialists

OMAHA – Methodist Health System is proud to announce the opening of Methodist Physicians Clinic Diabetes and Endocrine Specialists.

The clinic, which aims to help patients achieve and maintain proper hormone production, is led by four new specialists. They are:

  • Radha Andukuri, MD
  • Claire Baker, MD
  • Sarah Konigsberg, MD
  • Umasankari Sundaram, MD

The team of endocrinologists – which previously practiced under Diabetes & Endocrine Associates, P.C. in Omaha – diagnoses and treats hormonal, glandular, and blood sugar-related diseases and ailments.

Dr. Radha Andukuri attended Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India. She completed her internal medicine residency and an endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism fellowship at Creighton University in Omaha.

She enjoys the complexity of endocrinology and is especially interested in the prevention and management of diabetes.

“I want to be part of the solution,” she said. “Each time a patient gets better, it motivates me to do more and more – help more and more people.”

Dr. Claire Baker attended medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She completed her internal medicine residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and later completed her endocrinology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

“It’s kind of like detective work,” she said of endocrinology. “It requires a lot of talking with patients, getting their histories, thinking through all that, looking at test results and trying to put it all together to make diagnoses and prescribe therapies.”

Dr. Baker’s approach to patient care always starts with an open mind – never assuming what a patient might need before really getting to know them.

Dr. Sarah Konigsberg attended medical school and completed a diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

She chose to specialize in endocrinology because it’s challenging and allows her to form long-term relationships with patients.

“I have a postcard up on the wall in my office from someone who moved away, telling me how he’d been able to stop three of his medicines because of changes he had made based on some of our discussions,” Dr. Konigsberg said. “I find that to be the most rewarding part.”

She is proud to join a health system that demonstrates exceptional communication and coordination between health care teams.

Dr. Umasankari Sundaram – or Dr. Uma, as she prefers to be called – attended medical school at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in Chennai, India. She completed her internal medicine residency at North Shore Medical Center in Salem, Massachusetts, before completing a clinical diabetes fellowship at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She went on to complete a diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

“When you’re feeling better, everything will go in the right direction,” Dr. Sundaram said.

Inspired by Methodist’s culture and commitment to patient care, she strives to show The Meaning of Care by doing whatever she can to improve a patient’s quality of life.

“The problems we deal with as endocrinologists are chronic problems,” she said. “Every day is a challenge for those patients. By even making one small change to improve their quality of life – that means a lot to me.”

Drs. Uma, Konigsberg, Baker and Andukuri are now seeing patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic Diabetes and Endocrine Specialists (7831 Chicago Court). Appointments can be made by calling your Methodist primary care provider or (402) 354-1230.
