Free Prostate Cancer Presentation Set For Sept. 19

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA -  Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital will provide a free prostate cancer educational presentation Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 5 – 7  p.m., in the hospital’s 2HA Classroom

This year, an estimated 164,690 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and nearly 29,430 of them will die from it. After lung cancer, prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men over the age of 50. In its early stages, it typically has no symptoms and is most commonly detected through prostate cancer screening tests and is eliminated from the body by surgery or radiation.

A brief presentation about the early warning signs of prostate cancer and best prevention methods, featuring Brent Wakefield, MD, Omaha urologist, will lead off the evening.

Free screenings will be available to men meeting requirements set by the American Urological Association.

Men 40 years or older who are at higher risk due to family history, are of African-American descent, or have limited or no health insurance, are encouraged to get tested. Any previous diagnosis of prostate cancer excludes individuals from participating.

Advanced registration for this free presentation is required. Call Methodist Jennie Edmundson’s patient scheduling at 712-396-7600. Parking is available in the 201 Building lot.
