Pulmonary Medicine Specialists Welcome Dr. Wells

OMAHA – Dr. Adam D. Wells has been drawn to medicine and caring for others since childhood. Why the interest? He had a good role model.

“My dad was a physician assistant in a small town, so I got to grow up seeing him take care of all the people in a very small farming community,” said Dr. Wells, who is from St. Paul, Nebraska. “I kind of fell in love with the idea of taking care of patients over a long period of time. Having the relationships that he had with them was kind of a cool thing.”

Dr. Wells has joined the Pulmonary Medicine Specialists staff at Methodist Physicians Clinic Westroads Office Park.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in human biology at Chadron State College. He received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) before completing an internal medicine residency there. He also was internal medicine chief resident at UNMC/Omaha VA Medical Center and completed a pulmonary/critical care medicine fellowship at UNMC.

Dr. Wells previously was a pulmonologist and assistant professor at the Creighton University School of Medicine.

He’s eager to join Methodist and be a part of its mission to have patients experience The Meaning of Care.

“I’m excited to work every day with a fantastic group of health care providers,” Dr. Wells said. “It motivates and challenges me to be the best I can be for my patients and colleagues.”

His philosophy goes beyond a patient’s physical condition.

“There’s also an emotional component,” he said. “The most important thing that we can remember as providers is to make sure we’re taking care of the whole person, not just the disease that they have.”

That approach benefits doctor and provider in the long run, he said. One of his favorite memories involved the family of a patient he cared for. Months later he crossed paths with the family at an event, and they approached him.

“Having them say thank you, and to still be remembered after all that time is a good reminder of how much of an imprint providers can leave on their patients and families,” he said. “I think that’s a good reminder to always make sure I’m doing my best job for patients.”

Dr. Wells is now scheduling appointments at Methodist Physicians Clinic Westroads Office Park (1120 N. 103rd Plaza). They can be made by calling 402-354-0120.
