Dr. Hutteger, Methodist tabbed by Becker's as among the best

CHICAGO — Becker's Hospital Review has published the 2017 edition of its list of "50 Hospital and Health System CMIOs to Know" and Dr. Greg Hutteger, Methodist Health System physician and Chief Medical Information Officer, made the list, which features some of healthcare’s leaders in the information technology arena.

Methodist Hospital was also recently honored by Becker’s Hospital Review, being named one of their “100 hospitals and health systems with great heart programs”. Methodist joined Nebraska Medicine as the only Nebraska hospitals on the list.

In 2016, Methodist Hospital earned the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline Gold Performance Achievement Award, which recognizes hospitals with high survival rates for critical heart attack patients. In 2017, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association designated the hospital a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.

Methodist Hospital first made the Becker’s Hospital Review “100 hospitals and health systems with great heart programs” list back in 2013 and returned to the top 100 in 2016.

“This is yet another validation of the tremendous work our cardiac staff performs on a daily basis for our patients,” said Steve Goeser, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Methodist Health System. “Our team provides quick and accurate patient assessments followed by appropriate care initiatives, resulting in outstanding outcomes for our patients.”

Dr. Hutteger was the only Nebraskan named to the “50 Hospital and Health System CMIOs to Know” list.

He joined Nebraska Methodist Health System as a family medicine physician for Methodist Physicians Clinic in September 2006.

In July 2015, he was appointed to the role of chief medical information officer for the health system. As chief medical information officer, Dr. Hutteger works with informatics, analysts, staff, and physicians to implement and improve the electronic health record throughout Methodist Health System.

Prior to his appointment at CMIO, he served for five years as medical director of informatics.

“This is a very well-deserved honor for Dr. Hutteger who has been instrumental in multiple initiatives within our organization, said Dr. Steve Zuber, vice president and chief information officer for Methodist. “While having overseen multiple projects, one of the initiatives that rises to the top is the implementation of a sepsis protocol which has helped us identify at risk patients before their condition becomes severe.”

Board-certified in family medicine, Dr. Hutteger continues to care for patients at the Methodist Physicians Clinic Regency clinic location as well as Methodist Hospital. Raised in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Dr. Hutteger and his wife have three children. He attended medical school at A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (Kirksville, Mo.), prior to completing his family medicine residency in Michigan.
